Featured Park: Grotto of the Redemption RV Park in West Bend, IA

Passport America valid April - October, 2 nights max

Recently, I came across one of the most eccentric and charming RV parks I’ve seen since working in this industry, and you need to know all about it: Grotto of the Redemption RV Park. In the early twentieth century, a priest by the name of Father Paul Matthias Dobberstein began living and working at a Catholic church in West Bend, Iowa. People were always intrigued by his “unusual” artistic ability, and this grotto demonstrates it perfectly. The grotto’s labor began in 1912 and was worked on for decades, using rocks and stones that Dobberstein had stockpiled over the years. Today, it is a museum and RV park, open from April 15th through November 1st.

Please take a visit to their website, there is no shortage of information in their research section. This monument’s history is rich and captivating; (as a writer, I am almost envious that I didn’t get to write their story).
